Does God Seem To Be Silent?

I cried out to God for help; I cried out to God to hear me. When I was in distress, I sought the Lord; at night I stretched out untiring hands, and I would not be comforted.  . . .
"Will the Lord reject forever? Will He never show His favor again? Has His unfailing love vanished forever? Has His promise failed for all time? Has God forgotten to be merciful? Has He in anger withheld His compassion?"
Then I thought, "To this I will appeal: the years when the Most High stretched out His right hand. I will remember the deeds of the LORD; yes, I will remember your miracles of long ago. I will consider all your works and meditate on all your mighty deeds.  . . . You are the God who performs miracles . . .  (Psalm 77:1-14)
Does God seem to be silent? Does it seem as though He has rejected you? Is His favor nowhere to be found? Is He ever going to keep His promise?
These were the questions the Psalmist was grappling with, and these are the questions we sometimes struggle with ourselves. Times of prolonged difficulties cause us to wonder if God has forgotten or even rejected us.

But the Psalmist knows that his current feelings do not reflect the true nature of God. There is a better testimony and track record to which he can appeal about God! So, he remembers: "The years when the Most High stretched out His right hand . . . miracles of long ago."
The Psalmist remembers "the God who performs miracles."

So, does God seem silent? Does it seem as though He has rejected you? Does it seem as if He is nowhere to be found? Just remember His works of old. Remember His mighty deeds. Remember that He is the God who performs miracles. He is not silent. He will work it all out for your good.

Prayer: Lord, I thank you that though my circumstances may sometimes cause me to doubt your faithfulness; your deeds of old testify to your absolute faithfulness. When my soul is downcast, please help me to remember your works of old. Help me to remember that you can work the same miracles in my life today. Amen.
