Not too Long; Not too Long

How long, LORD? Will you forget me forever?
How long will you hide your face from me?
How long must I wrestle with my thoughts
And day after day have sorrow in my heart?
How long will my enemy triumph over me?
Look on me and answer, LORD my God.
Give light to my eyes, or I will sleep in death,
And my enemy will say, “I have overcome him..”
And my foes will rejoice when I fall.
But I trust in your unfailing love;
My heart rejoices in your salvation.
I will sing the LORD’s praise
For he has been good.
(Psalm 13:1-6, NIV).

As life unfolds, there are times when it appears we have more questions than answers.
This is especially so when God seems to be silent and no answer seems to be coming through from heaven!
Maybe it’s a situation with our job and nothing seems to be going right. Opportunities that belong to us are constantly snatched away from us. We are denied promotions that rightfully belong to us. Maybe it’s a family situation that only seems to be getting worse by the day even though we are constantly crying to God about it and waiting patiently for a turnaround!
Maybe it’s a sickness for which we need healing. No medical remedy seems to be working.
Maybe it’s a longstanding request we have placed before God and the windows of heaven seem to be shut on us. Maybe it’s a dream or vision for which we have been laboring for years with no breakthrough in sight.
So, on account of the lack of visible progress, we ask: How much longer must I wait, LORD?
How long? We wonder whether we will have the joy of celebrating the answer to our request before we succumb to the grave. We wonder if our enemies will have the pleasure of gloating over our unfulfilled dream! So, how long?
In spite of how gloomy things might appear, like David, we should continue to trust in God’s unfailing love! We should think of how good God has been to us and take time to praise and thank Him. We should not just focus on requests that are yet to be granted, but also allow our hearts to rejoice in our loving and gracious God. We should trust in the goodness of God who promises to work all things out for our good!
So, how long? Not too long because God is always on time. There might seem to be a delay; but not a denial. Remain steadfast in your hope.
