God Truly Longs To Bless You
The LORD said to Moses, "Tell Aaron and his sons, 'This is how you are to bless the Israelites. Say to them:
" ' "The LORD bless you and keep you;
The LORD make His face shine on you and be gracious to you;
The LORD turn His face toward you and give you peace."
"So they will put my name on the Israelites, and I will bless them." Numbers 6:22-27.

God desires to bless and prosper His children far more than we could ever imagine. At the very core of God's being is a deep desire to see His children flourish. This has been the case since God first created humans. The Bible records that "God blessed them and said to them, "Be fruitful and multiply." (Genesis 1:28). After God had destroyed the earth with a flood, the Bible also says, "Then God blessed Noah and his sons, saying to them, "Be fruitful and increase in number and fill the earth." (Genesis 9:1).
When God called Abram, He made a promise to him: "I will make you into a great nation, and I will bless you; I will make your name great, and you will be a blessing." (Genesis 12:2)
Scripture also records these words from the apostle Peter: "When God raised up His servant (Jesus), He sent Him first to you to bless you . . . (Acts 3:26). Jesus came, first to bless!
Numbers 6:22-27 takes us deep into the heart of our loving heavenly Father. Almost as if to ensure that His children were blessed in the right way, God gave specific words of blessing to be pronounced by the priests upon His children. God instructed the priests: "This is how you are to bless the Israelites. Say to them: The LORD bless you and keep you . . . So they will put my name on the Israelites, and I will bless them.
An interesting insight into this instruction is that God wanted the blessings to be pronounced over the Israelites verbally to their hearing. Putting this blessing on them in Yahweh's name was then going to elicit a response of blessing from God. God's blessing was going to be released on the Israelites after His human emissaries had verbally blessed His people. There is a spiritual significance when a righteous person pronounces blessings on someone. God could have blessed without the involvement of the priests, but He chose to involve them.
Every morning, I take time to pronounce blessings on my wife and children. I also bless my church family. I believe it releases the blessings of God upon my family and God's church.
