Is Anything Too Hard for the LORD?

Then one of them said, "I will surely return to you about this time next year, and Sarah your wife will have a son."
Now Sarah was listening at the entrance to the tent, which was behind him. Abraham and Sarah were already very old, and Sarah was past the age of childbearing. So Sarah laughed to herself as she thought, "After I am worn out and my lord is old, will I now have this pleasure?"
Then the LORD said to Abraham, "Why did Sarah laugh and say, 'Will I really have a child, now that I am old?' Is anything too hard for the LORD? I will return to you at the appointed time next year, and Sarah will have a son."  Genesis 18:10-14.

When twenty-five years have gone by and there is no sign of pregnancy to fulfill the divine promise; when the body is worn out and hope is eroded, it is natural to respond with laughter when the promise is reiterated to us. Sarah laughed when she heard the LORD recounting the promise that she and Abraham were going to have a son. She laughed!

But God was serious. It was no laughing matter to Him. He confronted Sarah about it but she trembled with denial. What a scene! Sarah immediately recognized the seriousness of the moment as she heard the words, "Is anything too hard for the LORD? I will return to you at the appointed time next year, and Sarah will have a son."

There was a story in the news this week about a woman who gave birth at the age of 59 in New York City. She and her husband had been trying to have a child for over forty years. She had given up after so many years of trying but was encouraged to resume the quest after hearing about the story of a much older woman who gave birth. Really, nothing is too hard for God.

Are you counting yourself out? Do you think your situation is beyond God? Are you worn out by the wait? Could it be you are laughing in disbelief as you read this devotional? Could you possibly be asking if God will still come through for you? Is it for a spouse, a dream, or a vision? Is it for an addicted child, a family member, or a much-needed breakthrough? Is it for a seemingly impossible door that needs to be opened?

Take solace from God's question to Abraham; "Is anything too hard for the LORD?"
Take courage. Nothing is too hard for God. The God who caused the impossible to become possible for Abraham and Sarah is the same God you and I serve. He is more than able.
Is anything too hard for God? The answer is no. Nothing is too hard for God! Remind God that these are His own words. Stand upon it and remind Him to watch over His word and fulfill it.

Prayer: Father, you have reminded me that nothing is too hard for you. My situation is not too hard for you. Please fulfill your word in my life. Amen.
