Taste and See the Goodness of God.

Taste and see that the LORD is good.
O the joys of those who seek refuge in him!
Fear the LORD, you his godly people,
For those who fear Him will have all they need.
Even strong lions sometimes go hungry,
But those who trust the LORD will lack no good thing.
Psalm 34:8-10 NLT
When I first got saved, my friend who invited me to church (she later became my wife) gave me my first Bible. I was so excited that I consumed it from cover to cover in a rather short time.
After reading through it, I came back to the front leaflet and wrote these words: “Life without God is a hopeless end; but life with God is an endless hope.”
The truth is, I couldn't have written those words if I had not tasted God for myself!

David is absolutely right. Until we taste God for ourselves, we can never know His goodness experientially. We can never know how much joy there is in God until we have a personal relationship with Him. We can never know the protective shelter God provides when we take refuge in Him. But, David is not just stating the truth. He is also throwing an invitation for us to taste the initiative and “taste” the Lord.

Would you take a step to truly taste God today. The starting point is to invite Him into your life and walk in obedience to His word. David reminds us that the word of God is “sweeter than honey, than honey from the honeycomb. By them is your servant warned; in keeping them there is great reward..” (Psalm 19:10-11). That is part of what makes God good. His word guides us by alerting us to pitfalls to avoid in life. He also rewards us with the fruit that comes from obeying His word. This brings great joy. O taste and see that the Lord is good!

David goes on to talk about God’s provision… “Those who fear Him will have all they need.”
This is a promise that God will supply all our needs… “And this same God who takes care of me will supply all your needs from His glorious riches, which have been given to us in Christ Jesus” (Philippians 4:19 NLT). This is part of what we discover when we taste God in a true sense. God is a Promise-Keeper. He is our Shepherd and we shall not want (Psalm 23). He causes the boundary lines to fall for us in pleasant places even when life is challenging (Psalm 16:6, NIV).
O taste and see that the Lord is good!

Father, I thank you for all the assurances in your word. Please help me to taste You. Thank you for the Good Father you are to me. Amen.
