No More Words to Utter

(Oh, that I had someone to hear me!
I sign now my defense -- let the Almighty answer me;
Let my accuser put his indictment in writing.
Surely I would wear it on my shoulder, I would put it on like a crown.
I would give him an account of my every step;
I would present it to him as to a ruler.) Job 31:35-37
Job was at a point in his suffering when he desperately needed to hear from God!
He felt innocent but there was no one to hear his plea. He was willing to present his defense but God was silent! So, Job decided to sign off his defense without a hearing from God!

There are times in life when it seems as if we have no one to hear us out! Those are times when it seems as if God is silent. We have spoken every word in our vocabulary but there is no response back from God. So we rest our case. In the words of Job, "I now sign off my defense -- let the Almighty answer me."

The truth is: our limited human knowledge makes it impossible to know and understand why God allows us to go through certain situations. There are times when we see absolutely no justification for our suffering because we know we are living in righteousness and obedience. We feel we can defend ourselves before God. That is how Job felt. When God seems to be silent, we simply sign off our defense. But God is always with us even when we feel otherwise.

In your time of distress, may you feel the presence of God even when everything seems silent around you. When your lips have no more words to utter, may your heart feel the comforting assurance that God is with you.
Prayer: Lord, when my heart is burdened and I have run out of words, may I have the grace to sense your comforting presence. Amen.
