Wisdom is Invaluable: Ask God For It.

There is a mine for silver and a place where gold is refined.
Iron is taken from the earth, and copper is smelted from ore.
Mortals put an end to the darkness; they search out the farthest recesses for ore in the blackest darkness.
Far from human dwellings they cut a shaft, in places untouched by human feet; far from other people they dangle and sway.
The earth, from which food comes, is transformed below as by fire;
Lapis lazuli comes from its rocks, and its dust contains nuggets of gold…
People assault the flinty rock with their hands and lay bare the roots of the mountains.
They tunnel through the rock; their eyes see all its treasures.
They search the sources of the rivers and bring hidden things to light.
But where can wisdom be found?
Where does understanding dwell?
No mortal comprehends its worth; it cannot be found in the land of the living…
It cannot be bought with the finest gold, nor can its price be weighed out in silver….
Neither gold nor crystal can compare with it….
Where then, does wisdom come from? Where does understanding dwell?...
God understands the way to it, and He alone knows where it dwells…
He looked at wisdom and appraised it…
And He said to the human race, "The fear of the LORD -- that is wisdom, and to shun evil is understanding." Job 28:1-28
Humans go to unimaginable lengths to ferret gold and other treasures from deep within the bowels of the earth. Sometimes, divers go deep under the sea to retrieve treasures from sunken ships. All this is done at great risk to human lives and at great monetary costs. They are costly ventures. As costly as these desirable earthly treasures are, the Bible makes it clear that they can not be compared in any way to the cost or value of wisdom! Wisdom is simply priceless!

The dictionary defines wisdom as: "Understanding of what is true, right or lasting; good judgment, common sense." The value of wisdom is that it gives you understanding to make good judgments. Wisdom enables you to distinguish accurately between right and wrong; necessary and unnecessary; fruitful and unfruitful; good and bad; wise and foolish. In fact, wisdom can help you make decisions that bring you wealth, but wealth cannot buy you wisdom. Wise individuals can bring great prosperity to people by their actions and decisions. Wisdom can help save your very life. Wise leaders can make their nations joyful, peaceful, and prosperous. Unwise leaders can bring untold harm to society. No wonder King Solomon asked God for wisdom.

Wisdom comes from God. He is the only source of wisdom. God bestows wisdom on those who fear Him. The Bible makes it clear that the fear of the LORD is the beginning of wisdom.
I believe the current tumultuous state of society is a clear indication of the lack of wisdom in leadership. When leaders lack wisdom, they are unable to make wise decisions for the wellbeing of society This is primarily because the fear of God is virtually non-existent! Solomon was aware of this so he asked God for wisdom to rule. We each need wisdom to live in the best way possible.

So, question: With all the numerous requests you make of God, have you been asking for wisdom as well? Position yourself by walking in the fear of God and then ask for wisdom. You will be amazed at how peaceful, joyful, productive, and impactful your life will be. You will make wise decisions with fruitful results.  Wisdom is invaluable. Ask God for it!

Prayer: Father, I need wisdom to be able to accomplish all that you created my life to be. Please help me to reverence you so that my life will be filled with wisdom. Amen.
