Wait Expectantly.

O LORD, hear me as I pray; pay attention to my groaning.
Listen to my cry for help, my King and my God, for I pray to no one but you.
Listen to my voice in the morning, LORD.
Each morning I bring my requests to you and wait expectantly.
Psalm 5:1-3 NLT
All through the Book of Psalms, we see David crying out to God for help and relief.
As king, David had a lot of responsibilities and burdens to carry. As Commander-in-Chief of the army, he was also constantly fighting battles for the nation.
From fighting Goliath through different kinds of battles, we see David trusting God to pull him through. It appears he also had a lot of personal enemies to deal with. David had to remain on his knees before God so that he could stand with strength before his enemies. David was a man of prayer. As a man after God's own heart, he had to commune constantly with God!

In this Psalm, we gain an insight into David's faith in prayer. David seemed to be in so much distress that he was groaning before God. Groaning is an indication of stress, pain, grief and annoyance. We groan in prayer when we are so overwhelmed by our situation that we can't even articulate our feelings in words before God.

David tells us that his groaning is not in vain. He groans with expectation because he is confident that God will hear his cry: "Each morning, I bring my requests to you and wait expectantly." David waits in expectation because he knows God does answer prayer. He prays in hope and in faith. David does this every morning. So, we see a very disciplined person who makes time to talk to God every morning about his burdens. Sometimes, he simply groans!

The Bible says in Psalm 65:2 (NIV), "You who answer prayer, to you all people will come." This is an assurance that God does answer prayer.
The Bible also gives us an encouraging invitation to come boldly before God's throne of grace so that we can receive mercy and grace to help us in our time of need (Hebrews 4:16).

Like David, we must discipline ourselves to come daily before God and place our situations before him. God has given us an open invitation and we must not shy away from taking it.
However, like David, we must also come before God expectantly. We must come with a full expectation that our groaning will not be in vain. We must expect answers from God.
This is important because the Bible says, “to the one who believes, all things are possible” (Mark 9:23). So pray and wait expectantly because God will answer. Wait expectantly!

Prayer: In the morning O, LORD, I lay my requests before you and wait in expectation. Amen
