God Is Never Unjust

Then Job replied to the LORD,
"I am nothing -- how could I find the answers?
I will cover my mouth with my hand.
I have said too much already.
I have nothing to say."
Then the LORD answered Job from the whirlwind:
"Brace yourself like a man, because I have some questions for you,
And you must answer them.
Will you discredit my justice and condemn me just to prove you are right?
Are you as strong as God?
Can you thunder with a voice like his?" (Job 40:3-9, NLT).
We may have many questions for God when we are faced with challenges and trials.
We may see ourselves as undeserving of the difficulties we find ourselves in.
Sometimes, we might not necessarily verbalize it, but we sure do question the justice of God from time to time especially when the righteous suffer.

In this passage of Scripture, we are made to understand that we cross the line when we deliberately or even unknowingly question the justice of God. The justice of God is totally fair and righteous because God has a complete picture and knowledge about every occurrence. Humans can err in their judgment because their knowledge is incomplete. Humans can even be bribed to pervert justice. But the justice of God can never be tainted because God has only one agenda: righteousness!

So you can imagine how God must have been feeling when he kept silent for Job and his friends to speculate about the fairness and justice of God!
And so God was blunt with Job: "Brace yourself like a man because I have some questions for you, and you must answer them. Will you discredit my justice and condemn me just to prove you are right? Are you as strong as God?"

The truth is: No matter how righteous we may feel; or how unjust we feel our plight may be, God's righteousness can never be assailed! God is too good to be unkind to us. In all things, He promises to work for our good. Let's take God at His word even when all hell breaks loose around us. He will never be unjust to us! In the end, He will vindicate us. He is just!

Prayer: Father, there are times when I am tempted to question your justice and fairness. But please help me to understand that you are wholly just and will always vindicate the righteous. Amen!
