God Is Interested in Our Well-being

God is mighty, but he does not despise anyone! . . .
He does not let the wicked live but gives justice to the afflicted.
He never takes his eyes off the innocent,
But he sets them on thrones with kings and exalts them forever.
If they are bound in chains and caught up in a web of trouble, he shows them the reason…
He gets their attention and commands that they turn from evil.
If they listen and obey God, they will be blessed with prosperity throughout their lives…
But if they refuse to listen to him,
They will cross over the river of death, dying from lack of understanding…
But by means of their suffering, he rescues those who suffer.
For he gets their attention through adversity. Job 36:5-15
Is there any value to suffering?
One of the hardest things to accept is that sometimes there is value in suffering.

When going through adversity, it is difficult to imagine that it has any good thing to offer.
But the truth is: Sometimes God gets our attention and secures a better future for us through the challenges we encounter in life.

The passage is reminding us that there are times when God gets our attention through the troubles we go through. His goal is to get us to turn from evil and to rescue us from untold hardships and even death. If we listen, it goes well with us but if we refuse to listen, we can face destruction from a lack of understanding.

Are you going through some troubled times? Could it be the result of some bad choices? It is true: not every suffering is the result of unwise choices. But would you take a moment to do some reflection and some soul-searching? Take a moment to examine your situation and see if God might be trying to caution you to make some changes in your life.
God is so interested in our well-being that He sometimes allows challenges to come our way so that He can get our attention and redirect our paths.

Father, I thank you that in all things you do work for my good. Please help me to examine my ways and make amends where needed. Amen.
