What Will It Take For You to Curse God?

One day, the angels came to present themselves before the LORD, and Satan also came with them. The LORD said to Satan, "Where have you come from?"
Satan answered the LORD, "From roaming throughout the earth, going back and forth in it."
Then the LORD said to Satan, "Have you considered my servant Job?" There is no one on earth like him; he is blameless and upright, a man who fears God and shuns evil. "Does Job fear God for nothing?" Satan replied."Have you not put a hedge around him and his household and everything he has? You have blessed the work of his hands, so that his flock and herds are spread throughout the land. But now stretch out your hand and strike everything he has, and he will surely curse you to your face." Job 1:6-11
The spirit realm is rather fascinating. I believe it is quite safe to say that humans would live in fear and restlessness if we were privy to many of the things that happen in the heavenlies. In fact, when Paul was given the privilege of seeing some of the happenings in the spirit realm, "he heard inexpressible things that no one is permitted to tell" (2 Corinthians 12:4) To keep him from becoming proud because of those incredible revelations, Paul was given a messenger of Satan to constantly torment him. He called it "a thorn in his flesh"

The story of Job gives us a rare glimpse into the spirit realm. We are made privy to an actual conversation between God and Satan concerning one of God's choicest children -- Job. There are a number of fascinating things to note:

First: The Bible says that one day the angels of God came to present themselves before the LORD and Satan also came with them. This is a reminder that the angels of the LORD are on assignment throughout God's creation and there appear to be times when they are expected to present themselves before the LORD possibly to give an account of their activities. It seems to be at one such angelic gathering that Satan also presented himself before God.

This has some very comforting implications for us as children of God. It is a reminder that the angels of God are spread all over the earth as ministering spirits (Hebrews 1:14). The angels are there to uphold us so we would not even dash our foot against a stone (Psalm 91). The angels are there in their chariots of fire to fight for God's children so we can confidently say, "They that are for us are more than those who are against us." (2 Kings 6:16).

Second: The devil is busy roaming the earth seeking whom he may devour. The hedge of God's protective presence is so strong around those living in righteousness that the devil is unable to penetrate and attack without God's express permission. It definitely pays to live in holiness and righteousness.

Third: Satan knows that there is a point in time when a person can turn his back on God and curse Him unless that individual's commitment to God is not related to the blessings he or she has received from God. So, Satan was totally convinced that if God were to take away Job's blessings, Job was sure to turn his back on God and curse Him.

Question: So what if you were to suffer some severe and inexplicable loss of "blessings"?
What if you lost a very dear one? What if you lost your cherished job, marriage, house, or finances and nothing seems to be making sense? Would you still be loyal to God? Or would you turn your back on God and curse Him? What will it take for you to curse God? May your love for God be so genuine that no material or earthly loss will ever cause you to turn your back on God.

Prayer: Father, I am not privy to all the happenings in the spirit realm. But please keep me grounded in you so that no matter what happens, I will be steadfast in my love for you. Amen
