The Battle Is the LORD’s
This day the LORD will deliver you into my hands, and I’ll strike you down and cut off your head...and the whole world will know that there is a God in Israel. All those gathered here will know that it is not by sword or spear that the LORD saves; for the battle is the LORD’s and He will give all of you into our hands...Reaching into his bag and taking out a stone, he slung it and struck the Philistine on the forehead. The stone sank into his forehead and he fell facedown on the ground.
So David triumphed over the Philistine with a sling and a stone; without a sword in his hand he struck down the Philistine and killed him. David ran and stood over him. He took hold of the Philistine’s sword and drew it from its sheath. After he killed him, he cut off his head with the sword. I Samuel 17:46-51.

The battle is the LORD’s! The battle is the LORD’s! The battle is the LORD’s!
“All those gathered here will know that it is not by sword or spear that the LORD saves; for the battle is the LORD’s. Goliath was fully armed for battle and confident that David was no match for him. All he saw was a young boy approaching him with a stick and he cursed David in anger. David was not afraid of Goliath because he had divine protection. He was confident that he would be victorious because the battle belonged to the LORD.
Our trust should never be in ourselves but in God alone. Unless the LORD watches over us, we will stand guard in vain (Psalm 127); If the LORD is not on our side when we are attacked by people, we will be swallowed up (Psalm 124); It is not by might nor by power but by my Spirit, says the LORD Almighty (Zechariah 4:6); for the LORD your God is the one who goes with you to fight for you against your enemies to give you victory (Deuteronomy 20); many are the afflictions of the righteous but the LORD delivers him out of them all (Psalm 34); in this world you will have trouble, but take heart. I have overcome the world John 16:33.
As you face different giants and battles in life, remember that those battles are not yours; the battle belongs to the Lord. Do everything to prepare for every battle you face but let your trust never rest in your preparations or abilities but in God alone. The Bible makes it clear that the horse is made ready for the day of battle but victory rests with the LORD (Proverbs 21:31).
May the Lord grant you victory over every Goliath you face in life. May he upheld you with his mighty right hand. Do not recoil and give up in fear for the battle is the LORD’s!

Prayer: LORD, the battle is yours and yours alone. My frail attempts compare in no way to the might of your power; so help me to rest and depend on you alone. Amen.
