Facing The Giant

Then Goliath, a Philistine champion from Gath, came out of the Philistine ranks to face the forces of Israel. He was over nine feet tall! He wore a bronze helmet, and his bronze coat of mail weighed 125 pounds. He also wore bronze leg armor, and he carried a bronze javelin on his shoulder. The shaft of his spear was as heavy and thick as a weaver’s beam, tipped with an iron spearhead that weighed 15 pounds.
His armor bearer walked ahead of him carrying a shield.
Goliath stood and shouted a taunt across to the Israelites. “Why are you all coming out to fight?” he called. “I am the Philistine champion, but you are only the servants of Saul. Choose one man to come down here and fight me! If he kills me, then we will be your slaves! I defy the armies of Israel today! Send me a man who will fight me!”
When Saul and the Israelites heard this, they were terrified and deeply shaken.

1 Samuel 17:4-33
The story of the armies of Israel facing Goliath, the giant, was a rather intimidating one. Imagine facing a giant who is over nine feet tall, wearing a coat that weighs almost as much as a person - 125 pounds! Imagine that person screaming at you, intimidating you and defying the God you serve. What would your reaction be? Would you be terrified and shaken like the Israelites were?
Would you remember any of your Bible verses? Would you remember any of God’s promises?

In many ways we face all kinds of giants in life. There are times when we face giants that threaten our career. There are giants that threaten our marriage. There are giants that threaten our health. There are giants that threaten our children. There are giants that threaten our very lives in numerous ways. Those giants scream at us. They threaten us and can leave us terrified and shaken! That is the reality of life.

But our God has made many promises to us. The word of God tells us in Deuteronomy 20; “When you go to war against enemies and see horses and chariots and an army greater than yours, do not be afraid of them, because the LORD your God, who brought you out of Egypt, will be with you...Do not be fainthearted or afraid; do not panic or be terrified of them. For the LORD your God is the one who goes with you to fight for you against your enemies to give you victory.”

This is a standing assurance from the Almighty God! God promises to fight our battles for us!
So, are you facing some terrifying giants in your life? Are they threatening and intimidating you?
Don’t be shaken. God goes ahead of you today to fight and give you victory! Those giants will all fall like Goliath before David!

Prayer: Father, I stand upon your word that I should not be afraid even when I am overwhelmed by seemingly superior enemies. I will not panic or be terrified because I know you have already gone ahead of me to fight and give me victory. Amen!
