Do You Desire to See Many Good days?

Come, my children, listen to me; I will teach you the fear of the LORD.
Whoever of you loves life and desires to see many good days, keep your tongue from evil and your lips from telling lies. Turn from evil and do good; seek peace and pursue it.
The eyes of the LORD are upon the righteous and His ears are attentive to their cry; but the face of the LORD is against those who do evil, to blot out their name from the earth.
Psalm 34:11-16

What is the point of life if our days are not “good” days? What is the point of wealth if our days are filled with turmoil and lack of peace? What is the point of being married and having children if our days are lived out in sorrow and misery? What is the point of having a “great” job if our days can’t be described as “good” days? What is the point of succeeding if it can’t be described as “good success”? The greatest satisfaction in life is to be able to assert that we have a good life not because of what we have but because we are content in life. Our days are “good.”
God’s desire for us is that we “see many good days” on earth.
God doesn’t want us to live out our days in turmoil and sorrow. God wants our days to be “good” no matter what challenges we face. Even in situations of extreme difficulties, we can describe our days as “good” because of the assurance that God's eyes are upon us and His ears are attentive to our cry.
So how do we live the good life and see many good days? The Bible gives us the answer: “Keep your tongue from evil and your lips from telling lies; turn from evil and do good, seek peace and pursue it.”
It is amazing what pain and restlessness we invite into our lives because of the reckless use of our tongues to do evil. The Bible tells us in Proverbs 18:21 that the tongue has the power of life and death. The Bible also says in James that the tongue is a restless evil full of deadly poison.
Every utterance we make either produces life or death; good or evil. David is reminding us in this Psalm that when we keep our tongues from evil, seek good and pursue peace, God will reward us with “many good” days.
So, do you desire to see many good days? Then, “keep your tongue from evil and your lips from telling lies; turn from evil and do good. Seek peace and pursue it.”
By the Help of the Holy Spirit, we can! With God, all things are possible.

Prayer: Father, often times we fail miserably to hem in our tongues from sinful uses. Please help us by the power of the Holy Spirit to use our tongues in ways that bring pleasure to your heart. Amen.
