Taste And See That The LORD Is Good.

I will bless the LORD at all times; His praise shall continually be in my mouth.
My soul shall make its boast in the LORD; the humble shall hear of it and be glad.
O magnify the LORD with me, And let us exalt His name together.
I sought the Lord, and He answered me; He delivered me from all my fears.
Those who look to Him are radiant; their faces are never covered with shame.
This poor man called, and  the LORD heard him; he saved him out of all his troubles.
Taste and see that the LORD is good, blessed is the one who takes refuge in Him.
Psalm 34:1-8
There are times when we visit restaurants purely on the recommendation of others about how good the food is. I am pretty sure you know people who seem to have a very tasty way of preparing particular dishes like no one else. I have a neighbor who prepares very tasty cranberry sauce for us at Thanksgiving time every year - it’s her specialty. I have heard people talk about how tasty a particular dish from their mother’s kitchen is. In fact my children think my wife’s fresh homemade fries are like none other in the world. And I wholly agree (maybe we are biased, but so be it).

But the truth is, until you taste any particular dish you can never “see” how good it is; no matter how many adjectives are used to describe it. If something is really good, just one taste can get us hooked on it. We become believers from tasting!

David is exuberant as he praises God in Psalm 34. He wants to bless the LORD at all times. He wants the praises of God to be continually in his mouth. He is overwhelmed by the goodness of God in answering his prayers. He then invites us to taste and see that the LORD is good.

Tasting God is not a flippant impatient thing. We taste God by trusting His word completely and depending on Him to fend for us. We taste Him when we choose to believe His word even when things are most difficult and there seems to be no light at the end of the tunnel. We taste God when we sincerely believe that He knows what He is doing. We taste Him when we do not lean to our own understanding but depend on Him to direct our paths, We taste God when we take refuge in Him and look to Him to fight our battles. David found out that in the end, God always wins and vindicates His children. Those who truly taste Him can attest to His goodness.
O taste and see that the LORD is good and invite others to taste Him too.

Prayer: Father, you are a Good, Good Father. Like David, I can attest to the fact that you heard my cry when I called on you. Please help me to invite others to taste and see that you are a Good Good Father. I ask this in Jesus’ Name. Amen.
