The Power Of A United Church
All the Believers were one in heart and mind. No one claimed that any of their possessions was their own, but they shared everything they had. With great power the apostles continued to testify to the resurrection of the Lord Jesus. And God’s grace was so powerfully at work in them all that there were no needy persons among them. For from time to time those who owned lands or houses sold them, brought the money from the sales and put it at the apostles’ feet, and it was distributed to anyone who had need.

(Acts 4:32-35).
In John 17, Jesus addressed the Father: “I have given them the glory you gave me, that they may be one as we are one.” On the day of Pentecost, as the disciples waited for the promised Holy Spirit, the Bible records that “they were all with one accord in one place.”
In Psalm 133, the Bible declares, “How good and pleasant it is when God’s people live together in unity!...For there the LORD bestows His blessing, even life forevermore.”
There is something uniquely divine about unity among God’s children. Unity reflects the oneness of the relationship between the Father, the Son and the Spirit. That is why Jesus prayed for unity among Believers. Jesus wants the relationships amongst Believers to reflect that of the Trinity (Father, Son and Spirit).
The power of a united Church is beyond description. Unity brings divine blessings and life. The Believers in the early church were one in heart and mind and this released great favor from God.
A powerful product of the unity in the early Church was that they had so much grace from God that there were no needy persons among them. Unity created a corporate compassion among the Believers which caused them to care for the needs of each other so that everybody’s needs were met. There were no needy persons among them because people provided generously out of their personal possessions. That is a beautiful picture of the power of a united Church.
May each of us be touched by the Spirit of God to desire to operate in unity so that there will be an abundant release of God’s grace and resources to care for the needs of God’s people.
The Enemy desires to fragment God’s Church and God’s children but may we follow the example of the Trinity and strive to be one even as the Father, Son and Spirit are one.
Imagine a church where there are no needy persons! This is only possible when we are united.
Always remember that your words and actions will either unite or divide God’s church!

Prayer: Lord, your desire is that your church will function in one accord. Please use me as an instrument of unity in your church. Let me not be a source of division but rather a facilitator of unity. I ask this in Jesus’ name. Amen.
