God Will Announce You At The Right Time

David asked the men standing near him, “What will be done for the man who kills this Philistine and removes this disgrace from Israel? Who is this uncircumcised Philistine that he should defy the armies of the Living God?” . . .
When Eliab, David’s older brother, heard him speaking with the men, he burned with anger at him and asked, “Why have you come down here? And with whom did you leave those few sheep in the wilderness? I know how conceited you are and how wicked your heart is; you came down only to watch the battle.”
“Now what have I done?” said David.  “Can’t I even speak?” . . .
What David said was overheard and reported to Saul, and Saul sent for him.
 I Samuel 17:26-31.

For forty days, Goliath came out and shouted at the armies of Israel. He shouted in defiance of the God of Israel. The Israelites constantly retreated in fear at the sight of Goliath. But God was about to change the situation. God had found a man after His own heart; a man who had a very close personal relationship with Him. God had found a  shepherd who knew God as his personal shepherd. This man, David knew that even though he walked through the valley of the shadow of death to fight Goliath, he did not have to fear any evil.

David was sent by his father to take some supplies to his brothers who were serving in the army. He saw the defiance of Goliath toward Israel. He felt the disgrace of Goliath’s haughtiness and he remarked, “Who is this uncircumcised Philistine that he should defy the armies of the Living God?” David knew his God. He knew Him as the Living God who should never be defied especially by a person who had no covenant relationship with Him (uncircumcised).
David was poised for action. He was ready to take on the uncircumcised Philistine, Goliath.

But the interesting thing was that in the eyes of his family and brothers, David was a nonentity. Remember that he was not even mentioned by his father when Samuel went looking for the next king. David was out in the field with the flock. His father did not even remember him! And now David’s brother harshly criticized David: “You have left the few sheep” (you are not that great a shepherd otherwise you would be shepherding more sheep); “Your heart is wicked and you are conceited; You are only here to watch the battle.” They saw David as useless!

But God saw things differently. God saw a man after His own heart. God saw a man who had not just come to see the battle but a man who had come to turn the battle around for Israel.
David was denounced by his brothers but God was about to announce him to the world. King Saul sent for David and the rest was about to become history.

Lesson: Never worry when you are passed up, criticized and looked down upon. Man might denounce you but God will announce you at the right time. Just continue to be faithful.

Prayer: Lord, may my heart be fixed on serving you faithfully, knowing that you will announce me at the right time. Give me the patience to endure whatever pain you allow as I wait. Amen.
