The LORD Is Your Shield

LORD, how many are my foes! How many rise up against me!
Many are saying of me, "God will not deliver him."
But You, LORD, are a shield around me,
My glory, the One who lifts my head high.
I call out to the LORD, and He answers me from His Holy Mountain.
I lie down and sleep; I awake again, because the LORD sustains me.
I will not fear though tens of thousands assail me on every side.  . . .
From the LORD comes deliverance.
May your blessing be on your people. (Psalm 3).
What blessed assurance! What comforting words of divine protection!
David wrote this Psalm when His son Absalom rose up against him, seized royal power and drove him out of the palace!
David realized then that there were many who were against him and who did not wish Him well.
Imagine your own son pursuing your life with tens of thousands of people!
David, the "man after God's own heart," was at another low point in his life.
His enemies said, "God will not deliver him"!

But David did not focus on the negative words.
David focused on what he knew about his God.
He reminded God that He was his shield (Protector), the One who lifts up his head high.
David knew God would answer. With that in mind, he could sleep peacefully and not be afraid.

Would you remind yourself today that the LORD is your shield and the "Lifter up of your head?"
God will always fight for the faithful and deliver and bless.
God is a shield around you.
Prayer: Father, I confess that there are times when I feel overwhelmed by what I face.
But thank you for the assurance that you are a shield around me and the one who lifts my head high! I will lie down in peace because you will always sustain me.
