Listen To Godly Advice

Jethro, Moses' father-in-law, together with Moses' sons and wife, came to him in the wilderness, where he was camped near the mountain of God.
. . . The next day Moses took his seat to serve as judge for the people, and they stood around him from morning till evening.
When his father-in-law saw all that Moses was doing for the people, he said . . .  "What you are doing is not good . . . The work is too heavy for you; you cannot handle it alone.   . . . I will give you some advice . . .  You must be the people's representative before God and bring their disputes to Him. Teach them His decrees and instructions, and show them the way they are to live and how they are to behave. But select capable men from all the people . . . and appoint them as officials over thousands, hundreds, fifties and tens.  . . . Have them serve as judges . . . but have them bring every difficult case to you
. . . If you do this and God so commands, you will be able to stand the strain . . ."
Moses listened to his father-in-law and did everything he said. Exodus 18:5-24
Moses had encounters with God, unlike any human. God said of Moses in Numbers 12:8, "With him I speak face to face, clearly and not in riddles; he sees the form of the LORD." Moses brought Pharaoh and Egypt to their knees. God used him to redeem the people of Israel out of bondage. God used him to part the Red Sea. He was a leader of the highest pedigree! But Moses was also a very humble man. The Bible describes him in Numbers 12:3 as, "a very humble man, more humble than anyone else on the face of the earth."

That humble quality explains it all. Moses, in spite of all his accomplishments and anointing, was not above receiving godly advice. When his father-in-law advised him about how best to handle his responsibilities as a leader, the Bible says, "Moses listened to his father-in-law and did everything he said." He humbled himself and took godly advice to avoid ruining his life and those of others.

Many times, we ignore godly advice because of pride and end up ruining ourselves and others.
No matter how educated, experienced or anointed we may be, there is always a point in time when we must pause, humble ourselves and submit to godly advice. Ignoring such counsel out of pride and a hardened heart leads to devastating consequences. Pause and take godly advice. It will save you from a lot of turmoil! You and I are neither all-wise nor all-knowing.

Prayer: Father, I confess that I am not all-wise or all-knowing. Please forgive me for times when I have rejected godly counsel. Help me never to pass up opportunities for godly advice so that I can reach my full potential for your glory. Amen.
