You Will See The Goodness of The LORD

Do not hide your face from me,
Do not turn your servant away in anger;
You have been my helper.
Do not reject me or forsake me, God my Savior.
Though my father and mother forsake me, the LORD will receive me.
Teach me your way, LORD;
Lead me in a straight path because of my oppressors.
Do not turn me over to the desire of my foes,
For false witnesses rise up against me, spouting malicious accusations.
I remain confident of this:
I will see the goodness of the LORD in the land of the living
Wait for the LORD;
Be strong and take heart and wait for the LORD
Psalm 27:9-14, NIV

In this Psalm, David recounts the dangers he faced from his enemies.
The wicked were advancing against him to devour and destroy him.
False witnesses had risen up against him spouting malicious accusations.
In the midst of the dangers he faced, however, David took solace in God’s protection. He writes: “Though a mighty army surrounds me, my heart will not fear. Even if I am attacked, I will remain confident” (V 3, NLT). So, in spite of his troubles, David remains convinced of absolute divine protection.

There are three valuable lessons we can glean from David’s prayer as he concludes this Psalm:
First: David is convinced that God will never abandon him - “Even if my mother and father abandon me, the LORD will hold me close.” This testifies to David’s absolute confidence in the love of God.

The truth is: There are times when our loved ones might forsake us. There are even times when parents forsake their children. But, It is reassuring to note that we can count securely on the unchanging love of God. In fact God himself tells us in Isaiah 49:15, “Can a mother forget the baby at her breast and have no compassion on the child she has borne? Though she may forget, I will not forget you!” So, when it seems as if you are all alone and “God has forgotten” you, rest in the assurance that God has promised never to forget you. Be at peace!

Second:  David is confident that he “will see the goodness of the LORD in the land of the living.”
This is a statement of faith and hope in the goodness of God toward His faithful children.
As you go through the trials and challenges of life, be confident that the goodness of God will follow you all the days of your life. Wake up every day with an expectant spirit; not a fearful one.

Finally, David tells himself to be strong and wait for the LORD.
God has an appointed time for everything He has planned for our lives. Sometimes we fret impatiently because the wait seems so long and difficult. But tell yourself that you are bound to see the goodness of God in the land of the living. Let this encourage you daily to wait patiently on the LORD.
Prayer: Father, I thank you for your faithfulness. Please help me to wait patiently as your plans for my life unfold. Amen.
