What Is Your Most Important Request?

The one thing I ask of the LORD - the one thing I seek most -
Is to live in the house of the LORD all the days of my life,
delighting in the LORD’s perfections and meditating in his Temple.
For he will conceal me there when troubles come;
He will hide me in his sanctuary.
He will place me out of reach on a high rock.
Then I will hold my head high above my enemies who surround me.
At his sanctuary I will offer sacrifices with shouts of joy,
Singing and praising the LORD with music.
Psalm 27:4-6

These verses offer a revealing insight into the heart of David.
David is described in Scripture as “a man after God’s own heart.” So, what in the world does the heart of such a man look like? That is what we see in these verses: a heart whose greatest longing is to seek God, delight in Him, and meditate in His temple all the days of his life.

David was a most accomplished person. He was a renowned soldier and general; he was an accomplished leader; he was a very gifted songwriter and musician. David was a very beloved man. With all these accomplishments, it is very interesting to note that the greatest passion of his life; the thing he sought the most, was to draw closer to the LORD his God and delight in him. No wonder David was so blessed! He was blessed with prominence, success and wealth.

David also gives us an insight into the benefits of sincerely seeking God. These include: protection in time of trouble; being placed in an untouchable position; exaltation above our enemies; and enjoying the pleasures of praising and worshiping God with a contented heart.

So question: What do you seek after the most? What are you most passionate about? Do you seek after God the most, or do you seek after the blessings that God can give you? Are you sincerely thirsting for God; or are you focused on chasing after all kinds of material things which would leave you unfulfilled in the end? Is your greatest prayer focused on the physical needs you want God to meet in your life; or is your greatest prayer to be filled with God?
The words of Jesus are instructive: ”But seek first the Kingdom of God and His righteousness and all these things will be added to you” (Matthew 6:33).

So, what is your most important request in life? Can I encourage you to take a note from the life of David and reset your priorities? Seek after God with all your heart and your life will be filled with contentment and whatever blessings God has earmarked for you.

Prayer: Father, please help me to make you the most important desire of my heart. Amen.
