Do Not Be afraid.

The LORD is my light and my salvation - whom shall I fear?
The LORD is the stronghold of my life - of whom shall I be afraid?
When the wicked advance against me to devour me, it is my enemies and my foes who will stumble and fall.
Though an army besiege me, my heart will not fear;
Though war break out against me, even then I will be confident.
Psalm 27:1-3 NIV

David is expressing absolute confidence in the LORD’s power and ability to protect him from those who were seeking to bring him down and devour him.
The danger he faces is real; but David is confident that God will protect him from every foe!
In fact, he is confident that the tide will turn against his attackers!
He is confident that his enemies and foes are the ones who will rather stumble and fall!
The reason for David’s triumphant confidence is his trust in the LORD as the light, salvation, and stronghold of his life.

David is absolutely confident that even in the face of war and a besieging army, he can trust in God’s unfailing covenant of protection with him. David must have remembered how God protected him from Goliath. He must also have remembered God’s promise to him in 2 samuel 7 that He would protect, bless and establish his household forever!
These personal experiences of David with God gave him absolute confidence that God would continue to protect him no matter what he faced in life.

We live in times of great anxiety and fear.
It seems as if humanity is being assaulted by every force of darkness imaginable.
The pandemic has severely disrupted lives and created uncertainty about tomorrow.
It seems as if there is a relentless assault from hell itself. There is an assault on life from every conceivable angle: Safety is being assaulted by unpredictable shootings; finances are being assaulted; jobs and businesses are being assaulted; marriages are being assaulted. There is much to make one afraid.

But like David, we can also have absolute confidence in our covenant relationship with God.
We can depend on the assurance from Scripture: “Don’t let your hearts be troubled. Trust in God, and trust also in me” (John 14:1 NLT). We can also be at peace because of these words of Jesus: “Here on earth, you will have many trials and sorrows. But take heart, because I have overcome the world” (John 16:33 NLT).
So, don’t be afraid. The Lord has promised to watch over you. The trials and threats are real but God’s protection over your life is greater than any trial or threat you will ever face. You are surrounded by heaven’s horses and chariots of fire ( 2 Kings 6:17). Do not be afraid!

Prayer: Lord, I thank you for surrounding my life with your protective horses and chariots of fire.
