What Kind of Man Is This?

Then He got into the boat and His disciples followed Him.
Without warning, a furious storm came on the lake, so that the waves swept over the boat. But
Jesus was sleeping.
The disciples went and woke Him up saying, “Lord save us! We are going to drown.”
He replied, “You of little faith, why are you so afraid?”
Then He got up and rebuked the winds and the waves and it was completely calm.
The men were amazed and asked, “What kind of man is this? Even the winds and the waves
obey Him!
Matthew 8:24 -27

As we celebrate Jesus today, I want us to revisit the question that the disciples posed over two
thousand years ago – “What kind of man is this?” The disciples had been with Jesus for a while
but they still had not really uncovered who Jesus was! In the midst of the storm, however, they
discovered that Jesus was no ordinary man – Jesus could calm the waters and still the storms.
Jesus could save them from perishing.
Amidst the festivities and celebrations, it is important to ask the question: “What kind of man is
this?” What kind of man is this whose life has brought hope and purpose to billions around the
world over the ages? What kind of man is this whose celebration causes the whole world to be lit
up with bright lights and festive music?
What kind of man is this whose name causes:
 The blind to see and the lame to walk.
 The deaf to hear.
 Sicknesses and diseases to be healed.
 Bondages to be broken.
 Hope to be restored
And shattered lives to be healed?
What kind of man is this whose story has remained unstoppable for over two thousand years?
The answer is in these three words: “Jesus is God.” Jesus is God come in the flesh.
The Bible tells us in Matthew 1:23, “The virgin will be with child and give birth to a son and
they will call him Immanuel – which means God with us.”
So, question: Why did Jesus come to live among humans?
Answer: Jesus came to save us from our sins and to reconcile us to God the Father.
In announcing the birth of Jesus to the shepherds, the angel declared in Luke 2:14, “Glory to God
in the highest and on earth, peace to men on whom His favor rests.
So, what kind of man is Jesus and why did He come to the earth?

Jesus is God and He came to bring the good news that God desires to bring joy, peace and favor
to humanity. This why we celebrate Jesus at Christmas. The mission of Jesus is the reason for the
Christmas celebration.
So: Receive the joy. Receive the peace. Receive the favor.
Celebrate the joy, peace, and favor that is yours because of Jesus.

Prayer: Father, on this Christmas day, I receive the peace, joy and favor that is mine because of
Jesus. Amen
