Times of Refreshing

“Repent, then, and turn to God, so that your sins may be wiped out, that times of refreshing may come from the Lord…
Indeed, beginning with Samuel, all the prophets who have spoken, have foretold these days. And you are heirs of the prophets and of the covenant God made with your fathers. He said to Abraham, “Through your offspring all peoples on earth will be blessed.”
When God raised up His servant, He sent Him first to bless you by turning each of you from your wicked ways. (Acts 3:19-26).

After the Holy Spirit had come upon the disciples in the Upper Room, Peter boldly declared the word of God to the onlookers and three thousand of them became followers of Jesus.

Peter mentioned some significant things that happen when we repent and come to Christ.
First, we receive “times of refreshing from the Lord.” Second, Jesus blesses us by turning us away from wickedness.
The weight of sin on humanity is burdensome. Outside of Christ, we have no one to carry the burden of our sins. We live with guilt and condemnation. But when we turn the government of our lives over to Jesus, He becomes our shepherd and burden-bearer. As our shepherd, He leads us besides still waters and refreshes our souls (Psalm 23). As our burden-bearer, Jesus fulfills His promise in Matthew 11:28, “Come to me , all you who are weary and burdened and I will give you rest.” Jesus relieves us of our worries and burdens and gives us times of refreshing.
Experiencing times of refreshing should be an ongoing thing in our lives. When we feel down and out and weighted with the daily grind of life, let’s ask God to refresh our souls. Let’s remember to cast our cares upon Him. We must remind our souls that we are deeply loved by Jesus and that He is always there to care for us.
