The Mighty Wind of the Holy Spirit

When the day of Pentecost came, they were all together in one place. Suddenly a sound like the blowing of a violent wind came from heaven and filled the whole house where they were sitting. They saw what seemed to be tongues of fire that separated and came to rest on each of them. All of them were filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak in other tongues as the Spirit enabled them.
Now there were staying in Jerusalem, God-fearing Jews from every nation under heaven...Amazed and perplexed, they asked one another, “What does this mean?”
Some, however, made fun of them and said, “They have had too much to drink.”
Acts 2:1-4

The advent of the Holy Spirit was not exactly pretty. It happened when there were multiple thousands of people visiting Jerusalem from all over “the world.” The Holy Spirit did not make a quiet entrance. He announced His presence with the blowing of a “Violent wind,” and caused people to speak in strange tongues. The picture was so shocking that some thought the disciples were drunk! They made fun of them! But alas, it wasn’t alcohol. It was God at work!
Without the power of the Holy Spirit, it would be impossible to do anything of eternal significance. We need the wind of the Spirit to blow continually in our lives if we are to catch the attention of the world as the disciples did on the day of Pentecost.
But the Holy Spirit comes with His own terms. Sometimes, He might work in ways that might cause people to be dismissive of us.
Are you really prepared to allow the wind of the Spirit to blow completely over you and dominate your life? Then be prepared to face some ridicule. The ways of the Holy Spirit might not exactly earn you accolades. But, you can also be sure that God will always touch the heart of genuinely hungry seekers who would ask, “What does this mean?” People need the Lord and the manifest presence of the Spirit in our lives will attract us to them.
Look beyond the ridicule and allow the wind of God’s Spirit to blow afresh over your life.
He will empower and use you beyond your expectations.

Prayer: Lord, these are days of much skepticism but also a time of great opportunities to witness about Jesus. Please fill me afresh with Your Holy Spirit to enable me to reach a hungry world for your Kingdom. Amen.
