The LORD Is Your Strength And Your Defense

Then Moses and the Israelites sang this song to the LORD:
"I will sing to the LORD, for He is highly exalted. Both horse and driver He has hurled into the sea.
"The LORD is my strength and my defense; He has become my salvation." He is my God, and I will praise Him, my father's God, and I will exalt Him.
The LORD is a warrior; the LORD is His name. Pharaoh's chariots and his army He has hurled into the sea. The best of Pharaoh's officers are drowned in the Red Sea. The deep waters have covered them; they sank to the depths like a stone.
Your right hand, LORD, was majestic in power. Your right hand, LORD, shattered the enemy."  Exodus 15:1-6.

When we are faced with the seemingly impossible, a victory song is the last thing on our minds.
Never in a million years could the Israelites have imagined what they were about to witness with their own eyes. Never could they have imagined that they would soon sing a victory song to celebrate the defeat of Pharaoh. How was death going to give way to victory?

Only the night before, they were terrified as the Egyptian army pursued them through the Red Sea. Death at Pharaoh's hands seemed imminent. But the Bible says, "During the last watch of the night the LORD looked down from the pillar of fire and cloud at the Egyptian army and threw it into confusion. He jammed the wheels of their chariots so that they had difficulty driving. And the Egyptians said, 'Let's get away from the Israelites! The LORD is fighting for them against Egypt.' When God is your defense, the enemy must run.

The defenseless Israelites now had a victory song on their lips. They sang this song to the LORD: "I will sing to the LORD, for He is highly exalted. Both horse and driver He has hurled into the sea. The LORD is my strength and my defense; He has become my salvation." Fear not; the LORD is your salvation.

The LORD is a Mighty Warrior. The LORD is great in battle. The LORD is full of surprises. During the "last watch of the night," God can throw the enemy into confusion and turn your situation completely around. Don't be afraid of the many chariots and horses of the enemy. The LORD is your strength and your defense. Stand still and see His deliverance.

Prayer: LORD, the numerous horses and chariots of Pharaoh seem overwhelming, but I will be still and wait on you because you are my strength and my defense. Amen.
