Playing The Blame Game

Then the man and his wife heard the sound of the LORD God as He was walking in the garden in the cool of the day, and they hid from the LORD God among the trees of the garden. But the LORD God called to the man, "Where are you?" He answered, "I heard you in the garden, and I was afraid because I was naked; so I hid."
And He said, "Who told you that you were naked?  Have you eaten from the tree that I commanded you not to eat from?" The man said, "The woman you put here with me -- she gave me some fruit from the tree and I ate it."
Then the LORD God said to the woman, "What is this you have done?"
The woman said, "The serpent deceived me, and I ate it."
Genesis 3:8-13.

Taking ownership of our actions is one of the most difficult things for us to do as humans.
Adam blamed God for giving him Eve, saying: "The woman you put here with me -- she gave me some fruit from the tree and I ate it." Eve said, "The serpent deceived me, and I ate it."
It is amazing how quickly we pass the blame to others. Taking responsibility for our actions is something we would rather not do.

So question: Are there any shortcomings in your life for which you must take responsibility?
Do you have the courage to do so? Can you imagine the freedom that would bring?
Taking responsibility means we no longer have to hide. We confess our sins to God and ask for His forgiveness. That is the path to true freedom.

Don't pass the buck. Let the buck stop with you and walk in the freedom that comes from boldly facing your sins and dealing with them.

Prayer: Father, I confess that there are many times when I have failed to accept my faults in situations. I have blamed others instead of boldly accepting my own faults. Please forgive me and help me to turn a completely new leaf. I ask this in Jesus' mighty Name. Amen.
