The Benefits of Fearing God

Who are those who fear the LORD? He will show them the path they should choose.
They will live in prosperity, and their children will inherit the land. The LORD is a friend to those who fear Him. He teaches them His covenant.
My eyes are always on the LORD, for He rescues me from the traps of my enemies.
(Psalm 25:12-15 NLT)

Fearing God simply means living in awe of Him by obeying His Word. A person who fears God is one who loves God so much that consciously doing things that are contrary to God's word are wrenching and heartbreaking. It brings no pleasure whatsoever. It leaves one conscience-stricken.

Fearing God does not mean perfection or a legalistic adherence to rules and regulations but rather a cheerful disposition of one's heart toward pleasing God in word, thought and deed.
It is the most liberating way to live.

There are many benefits of fearing God. The Bible tells us that the "fear of the LORD is the beginning of wisdom." Wisdom is the ability to make good judgment. This ties into many of the benefits listed in Psalm 25. The Psalmist tells us that when we fear God, He will show us the path we should choose. Fearing God will cause us to live in prosperity and ensure generational blessings for our children. The fear of God also makes us a friend of God and gives us divine insight into our covenant blessings. The benefits of fearing God are numerous.

I want to challenge you to really reflect on this issue of fearing God. The entire Christian Life boils down to it. It is the pathway to true peace and prosperity. Imagine knowing deep down in your heart that God regards you as a friend because you genuinely fear Him!
Make a decision to live in the fear of God from this point on.

Prayer: LORD, your greatest desire is that I will live in awe of You. I want you to know that in spite of the many ways in which I falter, I truly want to love you too. Holy Spirit, please help me to love God with all my heart, soul and might. I ask this in Jesus' Mighty Name. Amen.
