The Lord Is My Shepherd

The LORD is my shepherd; I shall not want.
He makes me to lie down in green pastures;
He leads me beside still waters. He restores my soul; He leads me in the paths of righteousness for His name's sake.
Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil; For You are with me; Your rod and Your staff, they comfort me.
You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies; You anoint my head with oil; My cup runs over. Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life; And I will dwell in the house of the Lord forever. (Psalm 23 NKJV)

The duties of a shepherd are numerous and very tasking. A shepherd leads out his flock early in the morning to the place where they are to be pastured or fed in the open field. The shepherd watches the flock all day, keeping an eye to ensure that none go astray and that the sheep are protected from wild preying animals. Bruised flock and sick ones are nurtured back to health. Thirsty ones are led to safe waters to drink. At night, the shepherd safely leads the sheep back to their place of rest.  There is provision, love, and protection. Flocks flourish under good shepherds.

As a child of God, Jesus is your personal Shepherd. Jesus provides for you by giving you the best pasture and ensuring that your thirst is always quenched. When your soul is tired and weary, God refreshes you with His Word and the presence of His Holy Spirit. He ensures that you walk in ways that are righteous and honorable so your conscience is always at peace.
Jesus protects you in the face of danger and He comforts you when you are terrified by the circumstances of life as if you were walking through "the valley of the shadow of death."

Jesus, our Shepherd, puts our enemies to shame by laying out a banquet for us and causing our blessings to run over exceedingly abundantly for all to see. To crown it all, the goodness and the mercies of our loving Shepherd is a lifetime guarantee. It runs from earth to eternity. It never ceases.

Question: Do you have a relationship with this Shepherd?
Then be at peace because if the LORD is your Shepherd, then you shall not want!

Prayer: The LORD is my Shepherd and I shall not want. I will be at peace because He is more than able to handle everything that comes my way. Amen.
