The Enemy Can Be Very Intimidating

Now the Philistines gathered their forces for war and assembled at Sokoh in Judah…
Saul and the Israelites assembled and camped in the valley of  Elah and drew up their battle lines to meet the Philistines…
A champion named Goliath who was from Gath came out of the Philistine camp... His height was six cubits and a span (over nine feet). He had a bronze helmet on his head and wore a coat of scale armor of bronze weighing five thousand shekels (125 pounds)...His spear shaft was like a weaver’s rod, and its iron point weighed six hundred shekels (15 pounds)...
Goliath stood and shouted to the ranks of Israel, “Why do you come out and line up for battle?... Choose a man and have him come down to me. If he is able to fight and kill me, we will become your subjects; but if I overcome him and kill him, you will become our subjects and serve us. This day, I defy the armies of Israel! Give me a man and let us fight each other.” On hearing the Philistine’s word, Saul and all the Israelites were dismayed and terrified.
I Samuel 17:1-11
Again the Israelites were confronted by their arch enemies, the Philistines. Israel was trembling with discouragement and frightened because of one person; a giant named Goliath.

Let’s face it: Isn’t it naturally intimidating to be faced by a giant who is over nine feet tall and whose coat weighs 125 pounds - the weight of some human beings? This man’s spear had a point which weighed 15 pounds by itself! The sight was definitely intimidating to behold!

But Goliath failed to factor one thing into his prideful taunting: he forgot the fact that the God whose army he was defying controlled his very breath. He had no idea that he was alive because of the mercies of God! He was ignorant of the fact that God had the power to take him out at anytime! And God was about to do just that!

As you face the daily routines of life, you are bound to run into situations which might look like giants. They would appear to be giants because the enemy would clothe himself with your situation and make it scary and unsurmountable! He would make you feel small and hopeless. He would attempt to make you cower into a corner.

Satan would always seek to scare you with something that seems like a giant: a sickness, a job situation, a financial downturn, an exam, a legal situation, an endless marriage struggle, a longstanding unfulfilled desire... the list is endless. His goal is always to make you lose hope in God’s ability to save you. He will blatantly defy the God you serve by reminding you that God has not come through for you! But wait! God's not dead. God has a surprise for the enemy!
The enemy can be very intimidating when we face severe challenges. Remember he is like a roaring lion, but the Lion of all lions, the Lion of the tribe of Judah - Jesus Christ will fight for you.

Prayer: Father, I confess that sometimes my situation seems daunting, intimidating and hopeless but I take comfort in the assurance that you are a Mighty Man in battle and that the battle is yours. Amen.
