Changed By The Holy Spirit

Then Samuel took a flask of olive oil, poured it on Saul’s head and kissed him, saying, “Has not the LORD anointed you ruler over His inheritance?”...you will go to Gibeah of God...as you approach the town, you will meet a procession of prophets coming down from the high place with lyres, timbrels, pipes and harps being played before them and they will be prophesying. The Spirit of the LORD will come powerfully upon you and you will prophesy with them; and you will be changed into a different person. Once these signs are fulfilled, do whatever your hand finds to do, for God is with you….As Saul turned to leave, God changed Saul’s heart and all these signs were fulfilled that day.
Saul was ordained to be king of Israel; God anointed and appointed him for the role. It is interesting that before Saul was publicly commissioned into the office of the king, the Spirit of God came powerfully upon him and he was changed into a different person. The coming of God’s Holy Spirit, changed the heart of Saul.  I believe one reason why Saul’s heart was changed was so that he could have a better grasp of what it meant to undertake divine assignments and walk with God. Samuel said to Saul, “once these signs are fulfilled, do whatever your hands find to do for God is with you…” It was not by chance that the Spirit came upon Saul before he embarked on his royal assignment. Without the Spirit of God, he could not effectively fulfill his divine assignments.

Each of us has a divinely ordained purpose. David reminds us in Psalm 139 that each day of our lives is recorded in God’s Book before they materialize. We are also reminded in Ephesians that God has prepared good works in advance for us to do. In order to effectively fulfill our divine callings, we must first be anointed and changed by the Spirit. It is only the Holy Spirit of God who can change our hearts and help us to serve with humility and godliness. Without the touch of the Spirit, our natural inclinations will lead us astray. Saul learned this bitter lesson later.

The presence of the Spirit means God is definitely with us and we can confidently do whatever our hands find to do. May the Spirit of God come upon you powerfully and may you succeed in everything your hand finds to do because God is with you.

PRAYER:
Holy Spirit, I invite you to come upon me afresh. I desire that you fill me with power and might to undertake all that the Father has established for me to do. Amen.
