Acknowledge Your Sins and Be Free

Blessed is the one whose transgressions are forgiven,
Whose sins are covered.
Blessed is the one whose sin the LORD does not count against them and in whose spirit there is no deceit.
When I kept silent, my bones wasted away through my groaning all day long.
For day and night your hand was heavy on me;
My strength was sapped as in the heat of summer.
Then I acknowledged my sin to you and did not cover up my iniquity.
I said, “I will confess my transgressions to the LORD.”
And you forgave the guilt of my sin. (Psalm 32:1-5 NIV)

Sin has a way of debilitating our lives and causing needless pain and destruction.
This is especially so when we commit sinful acts and try to portray everything as normal.
Such a hypocritical way of living and robs us of our peace and inner joy. It makes us feel guilty.
Until you confess your sins, you will be living in bondage.
That is what David was experiencing in this Psalm.

A few lessons are worth pondering:
First, It is a blessing to confess our sins before God.
God promises that when we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us and cleanse us from all unrighteousness (1 John 1:9). Scripture also tells us that we deceive ourselves if we claim that we have no sin in us (1 John 1:8). It is a blessing to be forgiven because our conscience becomes clear and our spirit is cleansed of any deceit. Jesus says the truth will set us free (John 8:32). Being set free from the guilt of unconfessed sin is a blessing.

On the other hand, unconfessed sin leads to inner turmoil and a total lack of peace. The words of David summarize it all: “When I kept silent, my bones wasted away through my groaning all day long…My strength was sapped as in the heat of summer…Then I acknowledged my sin to you…and you forgave the guilt of my sin.”
David had no peace when he hid his sin. His life felt as if the hand of God was pressing heavily on him. But when he repented and confessed to God, he received forgiveness. His peace was restored.

Would you take a moment to chat with God about whatever sin might be robbing your peace?
God is willing to forgive. Acknowledge your sin and be free in your conscience.
