Wanted: People Who Will Honor God

Now a man of God came to Eli and said to him, “This is what the LORD says:... “Why do you honor your sons more than me by fattening yourselves on the choice parts of every offering made by my people Israel?... I promised that members of your family would minister before me forever. But now the LORD declares, ‘Far be it from me! Those who honor me, I will honor, but those who despise me will be disdained…I will raise up for myself a faithful priest, who will do according to what is in my heart and mind. I will firmly establish his priestly house, and they will minister before my anointed one always.
Then everyone left in your family line will come and bow before him for a piece of silver and a loaf of bread and plead, “Appoint me to some priestly office so I can have food to eat.” ’ ”      I Samuel 2:27-36.
It is an absolute privilege to serve the Lord. God is merciful beyond measure, but His holiness and justice also demand judgment. Eli had allowed his children to run without restraint and trample down on the holy things of God. God could allow it no longer. He brought judgment.

God’s desire is never to judge. His desire is that even the wicked will repent and wrap themselves in His grace and mercy. God wants to honor His children: “Those who honor me, I will honor, but those who despise me will be disdained…”

All through Scripture we see God looking for those who will honor Him and serve Him faithfully.
Jesus Himself declared in John 4:23, “Yet a time is coming and has now come when the true worshipers will worship the Father in the Spirit and in truth, for they are the kind of worshipers the Father seeks.”

God is still seeking for those who will honor Him above everything else. On such people, He promises to bestow great honor. Sometimes, the reward might seem long in coming but God is a Promise Keeper. He will honor you if you honor Him!

Prayer: Lord, please help me to love you with every ounce of my being and sincerely honor and acknowledge you in all my ways. Amen.
