June 10th, 2018 || Scripture of the Day
The Son is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn over all creation. For in Him all things were created; things in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or powers or rulers or authorities; all things have been created through Him and for Him. He is before all things and in Him all things hold together.
What a glimpse into the power and authority Jesus holds over all things and all situations. All things were created by Him and all things belong to Him. Every conceivable form of power; human and spiritual belongs to Jesus. Jesus controls everything. The Name of Jesus takes precedence over every human and spiritual authority and situation. All things hold together in Jesus. This also means that without Jesus, nothing holds together. All things fall apart without Jesus! This is truly mind-boggling. Jesus holds our lives and all things together.
I wonder if we really comprehend the importance of this scripture, what our lives would truly be like if we took this truth to heart. Jesus has power over nature so He is able to speak to the stormy sea and to command it to be still. Jesus has power over every satanic and demonic power, so he is able to command demons to come out of people. Jesus has power over sickness so he heals the crippled, causes the blind to see and withered hands to be straightened. Jesus has power over death so He calls Lazarus to come forth from the grave after being buried for four days.
This is the Jesus “in whom we live and move and have our being!” Please don’t gloss over this truth. It is one of the most compelling and transforming revelations in the Bible. Believe this truth and allow Jesus to hold your life together by submitting completely to Him. He will hold every bit of your life together no matter how broken or devastated it might seem to you. Jesus holds all things together. Let Him hold you together.
Prayer: Father, I thank you for this simple but sobering truth. I confess that there are times when I try to hold things together with my own strength. Help me to relinquish control into the hands of Jesus. Thank you, Father. Amen.
