DAILY RENEWAL – “ABBA, FATHER”

June 11th, 2018 || Scripture of the Day

For those who are led by the Spirit of God are the children of God. The Spirit you received does not make you slaves, so that you live in fear again; rather, the Spirit you received brought about your adoption to sonship. And by Him we cry, “Abba, Father.” The Spirit Himself testifies with our spirit that we are God’s children. Now if we are children, then we are heirs – heirs of God and co-heirs with Christ, if indeed we share in His sufferings in order that we may also share in His glory.

Romans 8:14-17

We must walk with full confidence because of who we are. God has adopted and given us full legal rights as His children. The blessings are numerous:

  1. There should be no spirit of fear in us because of our privileged position with God.
  2. There should be a constant joyous testimony in our hearts because of whose we are.
  3. We are joint heirs with Christ which means all that Jesus has is ours too!
  4. We can call God, Abba.

Abba is a term of endearment.  It is the Aramaic word for father. It denotes an especially close relationship with our Heavenly Father. The Spirit of God so testifies. Would you pause and think about what this really means? Think about the fact that the Creator and Owner of the entire universe is your father. You can cry out to Him at any time. He has all the power and resources to help you in any situation. Don’t make light of this privilege.

When your life becomes overwhelmed with feelings of inadequacy, just pause and think of who your father is. Think of the fact that there is nothing impossible for your Abba. Cry out: Abba, Father, Abba, Father! He is all ears. He will smile and call back to you.

Prayer: Abba , Father: I thank you for the joy and privilege of being your child. I confess that many times I fail to remember who my Father really is. May the knowledge of whose I am encourage and empower me to become everything you’ve ordained my life to be. In Jesus’ Mighty Name I pray. Amen.
