You Will Overcome And Recover All

Now it happened, when David and his men came to Ziklag, on the third day, that the Amalekites had invaded the south and Ziklag, attacked Ziklag and burned it with fire, and had taken captive the women and those who were there, from small to great; they did not kill anyone, but carried them away and went their way.
So David and his men came to the city, and there it was, burned with fire; and their wives, their sons and their daughters had been taken captive. Then David and the people who were with him lifted up their voices and wept; until they had no more power to weep…
Now David was greatly distressed, for the people spoke of stoning him, because the soul of all the people was grieved, every man for his sons and daughters. But David strengthened himself in the LORD his God…
So David inquired of the LORD, saying, “Shall I pursue this troop? Shall I overtake them?” And He answered him, “Pursue for you shall surely overtake them and without fail recover all.”
So David went and his six hundred men were with him...Then David attacked them from twilight until evening the next day. Not a man of them escaped...So David recovered all that the Amalekites had carried away and David rescued his two wives. And nothing of theirs was lacking...David recovered all.
I Samuel 30:1-20
David had taken refuge in a town called Ziklag to escape from the hand of king Saul. But an unfortunate situation unfolded. David went out of town with his men only to return and discover that their city, Ziklag had been invaded by the Amalekites. David’s wife, along with the wives and children of all his men had been carried away into captivity. Their city of abode had been burned to the ground and nothing was left. They had been reduced to zero!
David and his men wept until they were depleted of strength. But David was in even greater trouble because his embittered followers now talked of stoning him. In his distress, David turned to his only source of hope - God. David found strength in the LORD his God; and God assured him: "Pursue for you shall surely overtake them and without fail, recover all.”
In order to recover all as God had assured him, David “fought them from dusk until the evening of the next day…”  David put in the hard work of fighting to recover what was lost.
There are times in life when it seems as if trouble has ransacked and razed your entire life to the ground. All that you have labored for - your dreams, career, family, marriage, finances, vision, cherished relationships, ministry seem to be sinking into oblivion. To make matters worse, there seems to be no one to turn to. All those you count on seem to be against you.
But all is not lost! When everything seems to be on the verge of being wiped out and there is no one to encourage you, find strength in your communion with God. God could well say to you: “You will recover all.” So like David, fight from dusk to dusk. Put in the hard work of fighting for your dreams. Don’t give up. Keep pursuing. You will overtake and without fail recover all.

Prayer: Father, I will not give up because by your grace, I will pursue and recover all. Amen.
